MTA REFORM INITIATIVE

Yaroslavsky Hails Voter Approval of MTA Reform Initiative, Moves Quickly to Implement Measure - Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky hailed voter approval of Proposition A, the "MTA Reform and Accountability Act of 1998," as "a mandate to change course" in regional transit planning. Yaroslavsky noted that post-election analysis showed that his initiative - which passed Countywide by a margin of 62%-38% - found broadbased support in every portion of the County.  In a joint motion with Supervisor Mike Antonovich, another supporter of Prop. A, Yaroslavsky also moved quickly to implement Prop. A’s provisions for an independent audit, appointment of members to the Independent Citizens’ Advisory and Oversight Committee, and other required changes.
