January 16, 2001MOTION BY SUPERVISOR ZEV YAROSLAVSKY
The day-to-day management of the Countys utilities is divided among the Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Internal Services Departments. In light of the uncertainties and financial impact of the States current utility deregulation crisis, as well as the recent spiraling natural gas costs, the County should evaluate whether centralized utilities management would improve the oversight and conservation of its energy assets and utilization.
I, THEREFORE, MOVE that the Board of Supervisors direct the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) to report back to the Board in 45 days with an evaluation of centralizing the Countys utility management, which is currently divided among the Departments of Internal Services, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation.
