KNX Newsradio Endorses Yaroslavsky MTA Reform Initiative - On April 22, 1998, KNX Newsradio became the second major media outlet (following the Los Angeles Daily News on March 31, 1998) to endorse Supervisor Yaroslavskys MTA reform initiative. Yaroslavsky Moves to Expand Parenting Classes in County Health Facilities - On April 14, the Board approved unanimously Yaroslavskys motion directing the Department of Health Services to report back in 60 days on the feasibility of providing parenting classes at County hospitals and health facilities for the parents of newborn-to-18-month-old youngsters.
Yaroslavsky Urges State Attorney General to Safeguard Local Health Services after proposed Queen of Angels Hospital Sale - In a letter of public comment to State Attorney General Dan Lungren regarding the proposed sale of the non-profit Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center to for-profit Tenet Health Systems, Inc., Yaroslavsky urged Lungren to carefully consider the community impacts of such a sale, and to ensure that the transaction be approved only on condition that local health-care needs and interests are adequately protected. In response to the serious questions raised by Yaroslavsky and others, Lungren announced on April 9 that he was extending the deadline for comment and a decision several weeks, until April 30.
