North Santa Monica Bay Watershed Task Force Kicks Off - On April 23, 2004, Supervisor Yaroslavsky was on hand to kick off the first meeting of a new task force to develop a comprehensive regional plan to address environmental issues in the watersheds that include Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks and Topanga. The Regional Plan is to include strategies and projects to comply with state and federal environmental requirements and answer residents' concerns about flood control, natural habitat preservation, and water conservation. Joining Yaroslavsky as a special guest speaker was Terry Taminen, Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency, and Assemblymember Fran Pavley. E-Waste, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Update – Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky is reminding all County residents to safely dispose of their e-waste (computers, VCRs, small appliances) and household hazardous waste (paint, solvents, batteries, etc.) at specially designated sites operated by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. Yaroslavsky Hails “Transit Village” Projects – Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky announced two new “transit village” projects this spring, innovative projects aimed at integrating affordable housing and retail complexes into Metro Rail Red Line subway stations to benefit transit riders, residents and merchants alike. On April 19, 2004, Yaroslavsky formally opened the Metro Hollywood Apartments at Hollywood and Western, feature 60 rental units, 9,100 square feet of retail space and a child care center; and on April 23, 2004, he was joined by other officials to help break ground for a planned housing/retail development in the Wilshire Center/Koreatown community at Wilshire and Vermont.
