Board Calls for Internet Advertising, Privacy Policy - On October 31, the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Supervisor Yaroslavsky's motion calling on County officials to return in 30 days with recommendations for uniform policies governing advertising on or linked to County-operated Web pages, and protecting the privacy of County Website users. Board Approves Expanded Parking for Platt Public Library - Also on October 31, the Board approved a deal with the City of Los Angeles to expand parking for the City's Platt Library at Platt Avenue and Victory Boulevard in Woodland Hills. As part of the arrangement, City officials would gain the right to use a County-owned Flood Control District parcel on Bell Creek for a new parking lot, in return for constructing guardrails along the channel wall, resurfacing the access road, landscaping the premises, and maintaining the improvements.

Yaroslavsky Announces Public Works Projects - Yaroslavsky has announced Board approval of the following public works projects in the Third District:

  • Solid-Waste Management Websites - Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced a contract with L.A. Internet Corporation, of Los Angeles, to promote the LaCoMAX and 888CleanLA.com Internet Websites. The sites are part of the County's efforts to provide long-range solutions in solid waste management. LACoMAX is an online exchange program that finds new uses for materials otherwise destined for disposal. The 888cleanla.com site is an Internet-based public outreach program providing information regarding environmental issues such as recycling, waste reduction, and pollution prevention.
From the left, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky joins Sheriff's Deputies Charles Kristoff, Jr. (center) and Michael Ranes (right), who were honored before the Board of Supervisors for their role in rescuing wandering Alzheimer's patient Barney Good and restoring him to his home. They credited Good's "Safe Return" bracelet issued through the Alzheimer's Association of Los Angeles. Deputy Kristoff's wife and Deputy Ranes' son were also on hand for the recognition ceremony.
