Yaroslavsky Announces Public Works Projects - Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced the following public works projects, which were recently approved by the Board of Supervisors:

  • Studio City Longridge Drain - A new project will soon be underway to construct 3,400 feet of reinforced concrete pipe storm drain in a hillside Studio City neighborhood. The storm drain will run along Longridge Avenue from Blairwood Avenue to Longridge Terrace, and will reduce flooding in the area. The work will be performed under a $865,550 contract awarded to Excel Paving Company of Long Beach.
  • Malibu Creek Bridge Upgrade - An upgrade will soon be underway for the Malibu Canyon Road bridge to increase stability over Malibu Creek. The work will be performed under a $180,861 contract to T M Engineering of Tarzana. The project is part of the State Seismic Safety Retrofit Program, a statewide effort to upgrade bridges to enhance their stability during an earthquake.
  • Malibu, West Valley Tree Trimming - Trimming will soon commence for some 3,286 trees along various County streets in the Malibu, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Viewridge, and Woodland Crest areas. The work will be performed under a $99,387 contract awarded to Golden Bear Arborists, Inc. of Monrovia. Because residents of these wooded communities were committed to preserving the forest-like atmosphere, Yaroslavsky's office worked closely with the County's Department of Public Works, homeowner groups, and agencies like the National Park Service and the Resource Conservation District to ensure maximum communication with, and monitoring of, the contractor as the work is performed. The work is scheduled based on a 5-year maintenance cycle that coincides with the growth rates of the trees. Trimmed wood will be made available to homeowners for firewood before being removed. The contractor will also recycle tree waste.

Yaroslavsky Highlights State Resource Management Grants Program - Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky is urging all those interested in natural resource management issues to explore the State of California's Coordinated Resource Management and Planning Program, a community-based process that emphasizes direct participation by those concerned in a given planning area for resource planning, problem solving, and management.
