Household Hazardous Waste Collection Set for Pacific Palisades - Supervisor Yaroslavsky has announced an upcoming Countywide Household Hazardous Waste collection using the Hazmobile from Thur-Sat, August 24-26, at Pacific Palisades High School (upper parking lot behind the football field), 15777 Bowdoin Street, in Pacific Palisades from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Further information may be obtained by calling toll-free, at (1-800) 98-TOXIC (988-6942).

Yaroslavsky Announces Garbage Collection Fee Waiver for Malibu, Topanga Residents -Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that collection of the annual $120 garbage disposal fee will be waived this year for the 2500 residents served by the Malibu Garbage Disposal District, which extends from Topanga Canyon through the City of Malibu to Pepperdine University. Yaroslavsky explained that a fiscal review last year of the County's Department of Public Works identified enough cost savings from competitive bidding to permit waiving the garbage pickup fees for the Malibu area. He said that affected property owners would be receiving notice next month informing them of the fee collection waiver on their December property tax bills.

San Fernando Library Plaza Groundbreaking

To celebrate the groundbreaking for the new San Fernando Library Plaza project, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky (center) is joined by, from the left, City of San Fernando Mayor Silverio Robledo; County Library Commissioner Alma Martinez; and Martha and Severyn Aszkenazy, President and Vice-President, respectively, of Pueblo Contracting Services, Inc. The project, an 8,601 sq.ft. facility housing office and library space, will offer improved amenities and services for patrons, including two additional Internet computers for public use, an expanded children's area, a new Young Adult area, an expanded Homework Center, the reestablishment of a Literacy Center for tutoring and literacy services, and space to expand the library's collection in the future.

Yaroslavsky Announces Unincorporated Area Community "Help Line," Code Enforcement "Report Line" for Topanga, Other Areas - Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced an innovative pilot project to enhance community access to government services in unincorporated communities such as Topanga.

  • The L.A. County Services Help Line, 1-888-924-HELP (1-888-924-4357)
  • The L.A. County Code Enforcement Line, 1-877-966-CODE (1-877-966-2633)

will provide 24-hour community assistance, seven days a week. Monday through Friday, Help-Line staff will provide assistance from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with automated assistance provided from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday and 24-hours on Saturday and Sunday. Yaroslavsky said that the new toll-free Help Line will focus on improving residents' access to County government services, including health care, child care, senior services, and many others. The new Topanga Community Help Line will provide residents with access to all Los Angeles County services through a single, toll-free telephone number. Yaroslavsky Announces Expanded Topanga Beach Bus Service - Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that City officials have added three new Valley stops along Ventura Boulevard to expand and improve service for the County's longstanding Topanga Beach Bus program. Effective Monday, July 31, added stops will include Ventura Blvd. at Reseda Blvd.; Ventura Blvd. at Winnetka Ave.; and Topanga Canyon Blvd. just south of Ventura Blvd. Yaroslavsky noted that the Valley bus will run only once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Morning departures at the three stops respectively are at 8:40 a.m., 8:45 a.m., and 8:55 a.m. Afternoon drop-offs in the opposite direction are at 4:10 p.m., 4:20 p.m., and 4:25 p.m. Yaroslavsky said the County will maintain the existing schedule of three round-trip bus runs through Topanga Canyon itself, which pick up riders at Woodland Park Estates, Viewridge, Topanga Elementary School and the Topanga General Store. The bus drops them off at Topanga, Will Rogers and Santa Monica State Beaches.
