| April 29, 1999 YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES VENICE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION MAY 22-23, 1999 Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced an upcoming Countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection of special interest to Third District residents. The Countys Hazmobile, a mobile hazardous household waste collection vehicle, will be open at Venice High School, 13000 Venice Boulevard (at Walgrove Avenue), back parking lot, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. "This is a great way for residents to have their household hazardous waste collected and disposed of for free," Yaroslavsky said. "With more than 90 percent of this waste recycled, we can help ensure that their health and safety is protected for future generations." Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes such items as leftover motor oil and anti-freeze, acid and lye-based cleaners, old paint and solvents, car batteries, pesticides and garden herbicides. The roundup will not accept explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials or waste from businesses. There is a general limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of HHW per vehicle. Residents are asked to place items in a sturdy box, preferably in their original, labeled containers, and to leave the containers. Products shouldnt be mixed together. Yaroslavsky urged residents seeking additional information to call (1-800) 98-TOXIC, or (1-800) 988-6942.
