| April 22, 1999 YAROSLAVSKY REAPPOINTS MORRIS KIGHT TO COUNTY HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced the reappointment of Hollywood Hills resident and longtime human rights advocate Morris Kight to the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission. "I'm very pleased that Morris has elected to continue his longstanding service on the Commission," Yaroslavsky said. "He has served our community well for many, many, years as an appointee, as a volunteer community organizer and as an outspoken champion for non-violent positive social change and human rights for all people." Kight has been active on behalf of numerous progressive causes for more than four decades, and is perhaps best known as a founder and the first president of the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center from 1971-1980, as well as a leader in the Stonewall Democratic Club, the civil rights movement, and many other political activities and campaigns. Duties of the 17-member Commission include pursuing a range of activities aimed at eradicating prejudice, intolerance and discrimination based on arbitrary factors including race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, socioeconomic status, marital status, and physical or mental handicaps.
