YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES REAPPOINTMENT OF HELEN KLEINBERG TO COMMISSION FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced the reappointment of Encino resident Helen A. Kleinberg to the Los Angeles County Commission for Children and Families.
Kleinberg, a consultant for the Los Angeles Educational Partnership and a former schoolteacher, is a long-time commissioner who has been deeply involved in efforts to reform the County's child-welfare programs since 1982. Her efforts helped establish its Department of Children's Services, the nation's first, in 1984.
"I'm delighted that Helen has once again agreed to continue her service to the Commission as one of my new appointees," Yaroslavsky said. "She has been a real pioneer and leader in this field for more than a decade, and is one of those rare individuals dedicated totally to making good things happen for children."
Kleinberg's other activities include work with the United Way, the Youth Law Center and the Center for Early Childhood.
Duties of the 15-member Commission include the review of all County-administered children's programs, making recommendations to improve their operation, developing and reviewing relevant legislative proposals, and presenting an annual report on the status of children's services in the County.
