YAROSLAVSKY REAPPOINTS DR. HAROLD KARPMAN TO NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS COMMISSION

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced the reappointment of cardiovascular surgeon and Beverly Hills resident Dr. Harold Karpman to the Los Angeles County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission.

"I'm very pleased that Hal has agreed to continue serving as my representative on this panel," Yaroslavsky said. "Since his appointment in 1993, he has been an outstanding and dedicated member, and his insight and experience are greatly valued."

A native of Los Angeles, Karpman received his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco and completed post-graduate training at Beth Israel Hospital at Harvard Medical School, Boston. In addition to numerous scientific papers, he has published several books and maintains active involvement in many professional organizations. He is the senior member and founder of a cardiology group in Beverly Hills, and serves as an attending physician at UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Brotman Medical Center, and Westside Hospital, as well as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA.

Duties of the twenty-member Commission include reviewing legislation and promoting polices aimed at stemming drug abuse.
