YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

Board of Supervisors Chairman Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that a project will soon be underway to improve portions of Franklin Canyon Drive and Lake Drive in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area north of Beverly Hills.  Work will include resurfacing roadway pavement and modification of traffic signals.

Yaroslavsky said that the project is expected to cost between $75,000 and $95,000, and is part of the County’s ongoing highway construction and maintenance program.

The County Department of Public Works will unseal bids on the project January 22.  Officials expect the work to take 25 working days to complete, beginning in April and ending in May.  Once construction begins, Lake Drive may be reduced to one traffic lane for both directions, controlled by flag operators, during daylight working hours.  Franklin Canyon Drive may be open only to local traffic during construction.
