YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES MALIBU WATER TANK UPGRADE APPROVAL

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that a project will soon be underway to complete seismic upgrades to nine existing water tanks in the vicinity of Malibu.

"This will reduce the chances that an earthquake will impact or disrupt water service to the Malibu community," Yaroslavsky explained.

The work will be performed under a $494,900 contract awarded to A. J. Fistes Corporation, of San Pedro, for seismic upgrades, one of four bidders, with the high bid coming in at $642,300.

Yaroslavsky said that the project cost would be reimbursed under the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Officials expect the project to take 100 working days, beginning in February and ending in June. There will be no interruption in water service to customers.
