YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES STORM DRAIN REPAIRS IN LOS ANGELES, AGOURA HILLS, SAN FERNANDO

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that a project will soon be underway to repair storm drains in various areas of the County, including the City of Los Angeles, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, San Fernando, and Westlake Village.

The Board of Supervisors this week Board approved a $649,004 contract with Southwest Pipeline and Trenchless Corp. of Gardena to perform the work, which is part of the County’s ongoing program for the maintenance of flood control facilities.

Yaroslavsky said that four bids were submitted for the contract, the highest being $1.4 million. Officials expect the project to take 90 working days, starting in September and ending in February.

WENDY D. ARON JOINS YAROSLAVSKY STAFF AS DEPUTY FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced that Wendy D. Aron has joined his office as a Supervisor's Deputy responsible for children and family services and welfare policy.

Aron, a graduate of UCLA Law School and UC Santa Barbara, previously represented children in dependency proceedings with the County's independent contract law firm, Dependency Court Legal Services, and prior to that served for nearly four years as a research attorney for the Los Angeles County Juvenile Court.

"I am delighted to welcome Wendy to my staff," Yaroslavsky said. "Her experience and expertise in the children's and social services fields covers some of the most important duties assigned to the County. The abused and neglected kids we are obligated to protect, and the individuals and families we are obligated to assist, depend on people like Wendy to look out for their interests, and I'm fully confident that she will."

Aron has also worked as a legal intern for U.S. District Judge Richard Paez; edited and published in the areas of child abuse and neglect, as well as in women's and public interest law; and among many child-related volunteer activities, was named Volunteer of the Year by the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
