December 20, 2000 COUNTY PLANS WORK TO STEM BEACH EROSION NEAR GLADSTONE'S 4 FISH Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has announced plans for project to shore up a rock slope and small rock jetty at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades. The work is to be done near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard. The rock slope protects the bluff that supports the parking lot adjacent to Gladstone's 4 Fish Restaurant from erosion caused by storm waves. Visitors to Will Rogers State Park and the restaurant use the public parking lot. The rock jetty, built into the surf perpendicular to the beach, slows the migration of sand and widens the beach. The County Department of Beaches and Harbors will finance the entire cost of the project as part of its program to protect coastal slopes. County Public Works officials plan to unseal bids to perform the work January 16. The project will proceed in two phases. Officials expect to complete the repair of the rock jetty and a portion of the rock slope by May 1. They anticipate that work on the remainder of the rock slope will begin November 1 and conclude by December 20.
